PREVIMER Introduction

PREVIMER is a pre-operational system aiming to provide a wide range of users, from private individuals to professionals, with short-term forecasts about the coastal environment along the French coastlines bordering the English Channel, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea.

PREVIMER Context

PREVIMER was set up as the Operational Coastal Oceanographic Centre with the aim of providing observation data, modelling tools and real time forecasts as required by a fast growing number of users working on the coastal zones, taking the regulations in force into consideration.

The PREVIMER project is listed within the “Five-year plan drafted between the State and the region, i.e. Brittany, for 2000-2006”(“Contrat de Plan État Région Bretagne 2000-2006”).

PREVIMER Objectives

PREVIMER’s main objective is to produce routine analyses and forecasts on the marine environment state in coastal zones at a range of scales (from the continental shelf to the bay) with a capacity for zooming-in to specific areas. Timescales include both retrospective analyses and short-term forecasts (48h, as delimited by detailed forecasts provided by the French National Weather Service (Météo France)).

Partners

PREVIMER project is managed by Ifremer and supported by funds partners, scientific and technical partners, industrial network and data providers.
It is funded by European Union.
